Karen is a writer, teacher, a lover of words, stories, and people. Now an emerita professor of Pastoral Care and Pastoral Theology at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, she is turning her attention to helping those in ministry flourish through attending to story and writing practices.

Karen is the author of Pastoral Care: Telling the Stories of Our Lives and Attend to Stories: How to Flourish in Ministry.  She holds an M.Div from Pacific School of Religion, a PhD from Vanderbilt University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University.
