Writing as a spiritual practice can help us connect our life stories to God’s story of flourishing. What exactly does it look like to engage in writing as a spiritual practice? Does this mean writing takes a particular form, or has a different purpose? Some forms of writing are better suited than others. Journaling works well as a spiritual practice, as does poetry, or writing in the form of prayer or a psalm, but most forms of writing can work. What is most important is the intent of the writing. When my writing pays attention to God’s movement in my life, it functions as a spiritual practice for me, moving me toward a deeper knowledge of myself and a closer relationship to God.
